FitOver40 Review
A man after my own heart, Jon Benson. While his weight loss story is a bit more “extreme” than mine, I can relate to what he has to say.
There you are, middle age creeping up on you and you have a wake up call that tells you its time to do something about your health. For me, it was when my father came to visit last Thanksgiving and I could see myself in another 27 years. Trust me, I love my father, but there is no way I am going to be in the same shape he is when I am the same age. His “inspiration” has helped me to lose 25 pounds in about 10 months. I’m still working on getting rid of another 10 pounds in three months.
That type of motivation is probably what Jon’s doctor used when he told him that his 40th birthday would not occur if he didn’t lose weight.
There is something to be said about using “fear” to motivate yourself to lose weight. It’s like a switch being turned on, once it happens, it happens.
What would you do if your doctor gave you this information?
My triglycerides were over 1,000, my resting heart rate was 98 and my blood pressure was 190/110. I was quite literally, a walking time bomb, on the verge of a stroke or heart attack! My fasting insulin was through the roof, making me a prime candidate for Type 2 Diabetes. I had the hormone levels of a 75-year-old man… and that’s exactly how I felt… “OLD” … at the age of 35.
(emphasis mine) I know what I would do – go cold turkey on what was causing the problem!
Not everyone is like that though. Even with that type of information, some people won’t use that motivation to do something about their failing health until … well, it’s too late.
Inspiration Comes In Many Forms
Jon took the doctor’s order to lose weight and actually did something about it. He did something I wouldn’t have thought about.
He sought out people who he wanted to role model. Role modeling is when you find people who have already achieved the results you want and you “copy-cat” what they did to achieve those results. Simple enough, right?
Here’s the ingenious part, Jon “bribed” these people by promising to share their story with the world. Side note here, when I hear that someone bribed another to get what they want, I’m a little bit hesitant of dealing with that person. In this case, the “bribe” really is a way to get this type of information into the hands of people that need it – and that’s a good thing.
Some of the people that Jon was able to model include: Clarence Bass the author of “Lean For Life”, Dr. Richard Winett author of “Ageless Athletes”.
Other people of influence are some former “Mr” as in Mr. Olympia Frank Zane and Mr. Universe Dave Draper. Some other names you might recognize are Tom Venuto, Jay Robb, Roger Applewhite, and Shawn Phillips.
Why am I telling you this? Because, we are influenced by the people we associate with. You almost can’t help but pick up some of the habits or thoughts of those you consider your friends.
And Jon’s friends seem to have had an influence on him that turned around his health … (read more)
