Happy Thanksgiving

To everyone, even if you don’t celebrate this holiday.

Taking the next few days off from working and going to Tamarack Idaho for some time with the family.  We are going to get stuffed - Tofurky, vegetables, vino, pumpkin pie, cashews … lots of good food.  Also planning on visiting some hot springs.  One we have not been to yet is Gold Fork.  If we are in the mode to drive a little more, we’ll visit Zim’s hot springs near the 45th parallel.
And plenty of exercise.  This morning, I ran down to the Boise high school track and did 2 x mile in 6:54 and 6:41.  It’s cold and clear today, 32F when I left to run.  It will be even colder tonight in Tamarack - near 4F.

Have a great holiday.

3 Pounds Gone In 6 Days, How Did I Do It?

The weight loss effort for November is going great!

I have been consistent in me effort to NOT eat any - and I mean any - snacks in between meals. Today I weighed in at 163.2 lbs. I weighed 166.6 lbs on the first day of the month - less than a week ago.

Of course, I finished off October with a bang - raided the kid’s Halloween candy in a big way. I would expect that the weight loss would occur relatively easy for the beginning of the month. As long as I am consistent on the not eating part between meals I think my 155 lbs. goal by the end of the year could very well be a reality.

The other item I committed to is exercising at least 5 times a week. Did my weekend warrior stuff, ran on Saturday, rode the single speed on Sunday. Today I went over to the YMCA with the fang dang family and took a few good tugs on the rowing machine.

The ergometer workout was a bit different than normal. Instead of the long consistent row, I did a few sets of intervals.

First 2000 meter piece in 500 meter increments; easy, hard, easy, hard - looks like this;

7:52.2, 1:58.0 minutes per 500 meters, 24 strokes per minute

2:06.8 24 500m
1:53.5 24 1000m
2:04.9 23 1500m
1:47.0 27 2000m

And the second 2000 meter piece; 1000m easy, 1000m hard

8:08.9 2:02.2 24

2:14.2 24 500m
2:10.4 23 1000m
1:54.6 25 1500m
1:49.7 26 2000m

I’m psyched the way the weight loss is going so far.

Ironic Weight Loss

Don’t tell the kids about losing weight this weigh (pun intended).

You should find it ironic that I post a link to Patty’s weight loss plan while I splatter paid weight loss programs all over this site.

So be it.

Weight Loss Motivation

Blogs. I enjoy reading blogs about people who are into running, or losing weight. It can show the ups and downs they go through, and you can learn from their experiences.

Yep - See the Zen habits 31 ways to motivate yourself to lose weight. I’ve highlighted the salient points.

An exercise log/graph. For some reason, writing it down is extremely important. Really. Do it for a week and you’ll see what I mean.

Yep, look on the right hand side for my current weight and here is a weight loss chart.

Your before picture. You often don’t realize how far you’ve come. Take pictures.

I plan on posting an “after” picture in January 2008.

The scale. It’s not motivating to weigh yourself every day, as your weight fluctuates. But if you weigh yourself once a week, you’ll be motivated to have it keep going down, instead of up. Combine the scale with the measuring tape, and measure your waist.

Yep again. See my beautiful scale.

Reaching a goal. Set a goal for weight, or your waist measurement, or a number of days to work out, or a number of miles to run this week. Setting and tracking a goal helps motivate you to complete that goal. Make it easily achievable.

Yep. Look at the top of this page and see what my goal was is.

Posting it on your blog. Tell people you’re going to lose weight or exercise daily, and report to them. You’ll make it happen.

What do you think I am doing now?
