This is about 5 minutes better than last year. Here’s why. I trained less than last year, 3 – 4 runs a week, I weigh less than I did last year by about 5 pounds, and followed my heart.

By follow my heart I mean I used my heart monitor to make sure I stayed below (or there abouts) 180 bpm. I think that made a *big* difference.

I did NOT bonk at the 10.5 mile mark like I did during the previous two Robie Creek Races that I did.

How Did You Do?

Leave a comment, let me know how did.

I’m running the Robie Creek half marathon next week and want to know if I will be running in snow?

I haven’t been up to Aldapa Summit this year on a training run to check it out. Only a few weeks ago, the TV news mentioned crews were going up to plow the summit – that was March 18th.

I know we have had snow in the hills since then and I am hoping that it will be clear by next weekend, but it has been cold around here, most days the temperature is below freezing in Boise.

The only positive is that the temperature is supposed to warm up significantly this weekend; today 58F, Saturday 70F and Sunday 75F.

Leave a comment if you know the status of the snow conditions at the summit.

.. that’s what I did a couple of days ago along the Greenbelt here in Boise on a beautiful early spring day.

Above is my heart rate for the 2 hour run.

A few things to note … the first mile or so – not sure why it shows my heart rate so high. I have noticed that often, the beginning of a run the heart rate is elevated then settles into a lower rate.

To be honest, I don’t believe it.

The other thing to notice is that gradual increase in heart rate over time. What you should know is that I kept my effort consistent throughout the run as best I could … with the exception of the full stop I made at the one hour mark.

Right where I marked the chart – at 12.4 miles, 166bpm is where I stopped at a cross walk. I was absolutely beat at that point and could barely get started running again.

Next thing.

Just finished a 30+ minute run that included something I haven’t done in probably 20+ years – run a sub-six minute mile.

At the Boise high school track, I did a mile (1,600 meters) in 5:56 – 1:33, 1:30, 1:27, 1:26.
