Pedometer Stats

My first full day of using the SportBrain pedometer.

Part of the reason I like this pedometer so much is that it provides a web site that tracks your stats. Stuff like distance, speed, number of steps for the day.

Once you connect your pedometer to the computer via the USB cable, open the SportBrain program on your computer, the stats get automatically uploaded to the site.

Here’s a summary of your daily stats:

On the right hand side of the page you can see your speed throughout the day. Notice that I started the day around 7AM - that is my walk out to the car then my walk into work followed by what looks like a couple hours at the desk (that has to change!). At lunch I went for a fifteen minute walk, then again around 1:45PM I went for another short run. When I came home tonight, I went for a 45 minute run with the dog (that’s the “pink” part of the chart.

An finally, the next image shows the total steps for each day for the last seven days. I just received this pedometer in the mail yesterday, hence the reason only 200+ steps show up. Today, I put in close to 16,000 steps.

Pedometer For Losing Weight

Received the Sport Brain pedometer today. Here she is in all her beauty.

Of course, I haven’t taken it out for a walk just yet - I’ll start tomorrow.

Also wanted to mention that the month is more than half over and I have kept up with my promise to exercise every day this month. I’m feeling pretty good about my effort so far.

One thing that has helped me keep up the exercise schedule during this cold snap is going to the YMCA in the evening and using the ergometer.

If you want to talk about a great all body workout in a short amount of time - nothing matches an erg. And in case you are wondering, the erg is never busy. It might just be that an erg fits my monomanical behavior. I can get on a rowing machine and row and row and row and almost keep going to the point of exhaustion. Tonight I rowed 5km in 20:42 and that includes stopping for about 30 seconds at the 2000m mark to clear my nose. For the first 2km I was averaging about 1:57. The complete stop slowed my average way down.

I think I have rowed three other times in the last week, each for 10km. The first time took about 44 minutes and last night’s workout took 42:50ish - the 500m split averaged about 2:07. Part of the reason the first 10km was slower is that I was on the slower machine. Trust me when I tell you that each machine can be in a different state of condition, just like the human bodies we all walk around in.

One little side note, usually I weigh a little bit less than normal the morning after a erg workout. Isn’t that what it is all about?

I’m starting to feel some muscles I haven’t used much up until recently, in particular my stomach muscles. When I pull on the rowing machine, I feel like I am mostly using my legs, but I can also feel my stomach crunching up as I complete the stroke. I usually average about 24 strokes per minute. For the few people that use the erg at the same time I do, I notice that they are usually pulling at 30 strokes per minute or higher.

Until I start to get home before the sun sets, I’ll likely be visiting the gym and using the erg to get a great workout.
