Why I Weigh The Way I Do

by Dave

Hear me out.

That 167.4 lbs that I weighed last week seems to be a fluke. I’m fine with that though.

I thought it was strange that I lost 3 pounds overnight. I did a difficult bike ride the night before, so I figured that I might lose a little weight, just not 3 pounds though.

What followed wasn’t surprising either. I gained it right back. The next day I weighed 169.0, then 169.4, then … hold on to your hat for this one, 171.6 lbs. Not sure how that happened. And today I am at 170.2 lbs.

One thing I am more aware of now is how what I eat really does impact how much I weigh. In my previous life, i.e. – before the lifestyle change, I thought nothing of eating what I wanted when I wanted. My thinking was “who cares, I can lose weight whenever I want”. With that thinking, there was never a serious effort put into reducing my weight and living a healthier lifestyle. Mind you, my health wasn’t that bad, it just wasn’t that great either. Not until my father came to visit over the Thanksgiving weekend, 2006 did I realize that I needed to do something RIGHT NOW.

I love my dad. I don’t like his health. And I don’t want to be in the shape he is … ever. When my father was visiting, we went for a very short walk around the neighborhood. He was sweating like a horror in church in no time. I could see myself becoming my father (and it’s not like I wasn’t already). And in an instant, I decided to change. Yes, in an instant. On November 30th, 2006, I started on what has been a five and a half month journey to better fitness.

So here I am now, 20 pounds lighter and still losing weight.
