My Brother Will Lose Weight

I think I have one of my brothers on board, lets just call him P-dawg. He knows about my weight loss efforts to date - at least I have told him about what I have been doing and how much weight I have lost in the last six months (as of today, I have lost 21 pounds).

He has been instructed to get off his duff (so to speak) and stick with a 30 day plan of not eating after dinner. He told me about the grand plans he knows he *should* be doing, its just that he hasn’t done it.

I am speaking from experience when I say I know exactly what he is talking about. Too much pie-in-the-sky plans - plans that are too big - are keeping him from even getting started. I told him that come June 1st, he needs to stop eating after dinner for the next thirty days. And in case you are wondering, I am his older brother and I’ll tell him what he needs to hear, thank you very much.

So here’s to P-dawg and the lost poundage!

Still Losing Weight

Just because I haven’t been diligent about writing doesn’t mean I haven’t been losing weight.

I have.

It’s just that I have been sick for a week+.  I have some “crud” that is running me down.  I feel hot, tired and worn out; not a good way to be.

The one benefit about being sick is that I don’t feel like eating :)

Weight Loss Linking Love - 17 May 2007

One of the best P90X reviews I have read online can be found at this blog (I’ll let you search around by yourself).

Modern Forager provides a review of Death By Prescription: The Shocking Truth Behind an Overmedicated Nation

Jimmy Moore’s low carb blog reviews Lee Labranda’s The Lean Body Promise.

If you are like me, you appreciate before and after pictures to motivate yourself. Let me quote and highlight what I think the essense of her success

After 13 months of livin’ la vida low-carb, Darleen lost a grand total of 75.5 pounds! That was about 5-6 pounds per month (just a little more than a pound a week!) that she credits her desire to stick with her commitment.

Slightly crazed 50 year old woman from the heartland is taking the Woman’s Challenge for 2007.

As usual, Allie does some great research and comes up with grass-fed information about beef.

Got to love the headline, “Take the Cows Grass for $1000, Alex”. Talks about E.coli 0157:H7.

No Desserts, At Least Not For Awhile

I think my thirty day goal of not eating any desserts for the month of May 2007 is working.  I’m actually down a few pounds from April.  If you recall, April was the first month in five months that I didn’t lose at least 4 pounds.  Now that I have made the conscientious goal of refraining from that after dinner delight called “dessert” I am finding myself able to “go hungry” for longer.

It’s not that I “couldn’t” go hungry for an extended period of time, it’s just that it wasn’t at the front of my memory.  My thirty day goals tend to bring out the best - simply because I know that after thirty days I can toss them out if I want, like the sit ups and push ups I had to do for March and April of this year.  I’m sure I will add those back into my routine, just not with the daily monotony that I scheduled them to be.

If you have been reading this online weight loss diary of mine for any length of time, you realize that I am big on having goals.  Not just any goals, but ones that are specific and measurable AND public for the same reasons mentioned as number 27 here - accountability.

What’s your goal?

Why I Weigh The Way I Do

Hear me out.

That 167.4 lbs that I weighed last week seems to be a fluke. I’m fine with that though.

I thought it was strange that I lost 3 pounds overnight. I did a difficult bike ride the night before, so I figured that I might lose a little weight, just not 3 pounds though.

What followed wasn’t surprising either. I gained it right back. The next day I weighed 169.0, then 169.4, then … hold on to your hat for this one, 171.6 lbs. Not sure how that happened. And today I am at 170.2 lbs.

One thing I am more aware of now is how what I eat really does impact how much I weigh. In my previous life, i.e. - before the lifestyle change, I thought nothing of eating what I wanted when I wanted. My thinking was “who cares, I can lose weight whenever I want”. With that thinking, there was never a serious effort put into reducing my weight and living a healthier lifestyle. Mind you, my health wasn’t that bad, it just wasn’t that great either. Not until my father came to visit over the Thanksgiving weekend, 2006 did I realize that I needed to do something RIGHT NOW.

I love my dad. I don’t like his health. And I don’t want to be in the shape he is … ever. When my father was visiting, we went for a very short walk around the neighborhood. He was sweating like a horror in church in no time. I could see myself becoming my father (and it’s not like I wasn’t already). And in an instant, I decided to change. Yes, in an instant. On November 30th, 2006, I started on what has been a five and a half month journey to better fitness.

So here I am now, 20 pounds lighter and still losing weight.
